Why You Should Wash Your Produce

August 4, 2023

Did you know that you should always wash your produce before consuming?!

Take a look at the photo above. That before photo of the grapes shows how waxy and dirty they are. After they have been washed/soaked they come out squeaky clean!

Take a look at this dirty water after washing! Yucky!!!

There are lots of different methods to clean your produce, but I will tell you that just warm water won’t cut it. I have washed grapes in warm water before and it never gets rid of the waxy stuff. You can also try vinegar and/or lemon essential oil. Those help, for sure. (Remember, the good, better, best method!)

But the product I have found that works the best for this and does not leave a gross taste afterwards is the Thieves Fruit & Veggie Soak from Young Living. It gets it super clean and they have trustworthy ingredients.

It comes in this tiny bottle but you need to know that it is VERY concentrated. You only need a capful of it in a big bowl of water. It will last so long!

My other favorite hack for it is to grab a 16 oz spray bottle and add a capful or two of the soak to water and make a quick spray for those times that I don’t have time to soak the fruits/veggies. You don’t have to soak them for much more than a few minutes, but sometimes if I’m just eating an apple or something I can just quickly spray it and then wash it off with hot water and it works great!

My favorite jumbo cleaning bundle also has the fruit and veggie soak right in it!

Happy produce washing! 🙂
